The Sentroid Document Displayer v3.1
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
"Oh no, not another document displayer!", I hear you cry. Well, yes, this is
another document displayer. But as document displayers go, this isn't a bad
one...
Features:
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
* Super-fast text display and scrolling allowing you to view documents at
speed. (Useful if you, like me, are a very fast reader)
* File size limited only by available memory (although there is in fact a
maximum - 2,147,483,647 bytes long - a pretty unlikely file size).
* The ability to display documents packed with Pack-Ice v2.4!
* The ability to use the command line to tell it what file to load (this
means that you can use it with 'Install Application')
* A help screen for when you forget how to use it
Using the Sentroid Document Displayer:
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
This is dead easy. Just run SENTROID.PRG from anywhere and select the file
you want to view with the file selector (Cancel exits).
If you like, you can install it as an application with whichever desktop you
use (I use NeoDesk). This is equally simple (consult the manuals if you need
help). The file selector does not appear on startup if you use this option.
It will still appear if you elect to load another document.
Please do not run this document displayer from the AUTO folder, because the
GEM file selector is used. (The TOS 1.4 file selector is not supported,
because I don't know how to keep the call backwardly compatible with TOS 1.0
and 1.2.) The top of the screen tells you what you are doing at the file
selector anyway, so this isn't really necessary.
The Sentroid Document Displayer won't work in hi-res, or on large screens.
To get that extra zip, custom routines are used which write directly to the
screen. It will work in ST Medium res, and will change to ST Medium res in
all other resolutions (but only during document display - the fileselector
will be displayed in the resolution that the displayer was executed in).
You can get a list of what keys do what by pressing HELP during document
display.

Bugs & Feedback:
¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨¨
It is known that if there is a null (ASCII 0) in a file, then the file will
appear truncated at that point. This may or may not be fixed, it depends on
whether anyone wants me to fix it (it needs a filter routine).
This document displayer will not work in hi-res or any extended resolutions.
It writes directly to the screen memory for speed. However, it will attempt
to change resolutions in cases of emergency (although the file-selector is
always displayed in the resolution you loaded it in).
This program is written in pure 68000 machine code using Devpac-3 from
HiSoft.
It should (largely) be compatible. It will almost certainly work on STEs,
maybe on Falcons or TTs, or any other Atari beast: compatability is not
necessarily guaranteed, however. I've not been able to test it on any other
machine, other that my own 1-meg TOS 1.4 STFM; it SHOULD work, however.
In any bug report, please include version number and release.
